NNR CEO participated at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) third International Conference on Nuclear Security

NNR CEO,Dr Bismark Tyobeka Participated at the International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS 2020) which took place from 10-14 February 2020 in Vienna, Austria. The conference provided a platform for ministers, policymakers, senior officials and nuclear security experts to formulate and exchange views on experiences and achievements and craft future directions and priorities for nuclear security worldwide.

Dr Tyobeka was part of the South African delegation led by the Ambassador and Head of the South African Permanent Mission in Vienna, Mr Rapulana Molekane. Among other senior officials in the South African delegation were Mr Thabane Zulu, DG of the Department of Minerals Resources and Energy, and Ms Elsie Monale, Chief Director- Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Security.

Dr Tyobeka in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) also held a bilateral meeting with the new IAEA Director General Mr. Raphael Grossi, to discuss issues regarding strengthening regulatory independence and financial support to regulatory bodies.
